HIV
About HIV
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the body's immune system. In later stages, HIV infection becomes AIDS or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. HIV is transmitted through blood and semen. Students infected with HIV may present physical, psychological and/or cognitive problems. It is important for teachers to understand how to deal with these students in an understanding and supportive way, as well as to educate and inform other students on the disease. Teachers should be prepared to follow CDC regulations for handling bloodborn pathogens if necessary.
