About Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a seizure disorder resulting in recurrent seizures (sudden, electrical, brain malfunctions). Aproximately one in one hundred people have epilepsy. Fortunately, epilepsy can usually be controlled with medication. However, even people who respond well to medication occassionally have seizures. First-aid for seizures consist of protecting the person seizing from injuring him/herself, and making sure the victim doesn't choke. Bystanders can do nothing to prevent or stop a seizure. Other symptoms of epilepsy, such as tic-like movements and staring spells, are common and different people manifest different symptoms.
